About us.
Our story
During a 6-week summer project in a Wandsworth day centre in 1997, The Baked Bean Company was born.
Starting out as a drama project for just 16 adults with learning disabilities, the group hit the ground running. Since then it’s flourished into the amazing organisation we have had for over 25 years!
After many years of success, we have evolved into a registered charity and proudly became known as The Baked Bean Charity. Becoming a charity has enabled us to expand our reach and access more opportunities for our students, ensuring our work has greater social impact and long-term sustainability.
From Wandsworth to Wycombe, our classes are accessed by nearly 200 students from all over London and beyond. Our specialist tutors run 18 different classes, including drama, dance, Zumba and life skills.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg…

But why ‘baked beans’, you ask?
That’s easy. Because of Heinz 57, of course!
We like the idea of the ’57 Varieties slogan’ emulating how there are so many different versions of learning disabilities and how we should embrace our differences and flaunt them in whatever we do.
Thank you to our partners.
